Their customer support is only open from 8AM-5PM during the week (when you're at work.) and limited hours on Saturday - when you call them, you're put in a queue and you have to be standing at the garage door to give them numbers and then do some troubleshooting with them on the line. They allegedly came up with a new design for the electric motor.but when the going gets tough (cold weather) - this thing tucks its tail between its legs and runs away - even with the new motors. The biggest issue is mostly just the electric motor. I'm lifting a standard 16' wide x 8' high insulated steel door.and it is properly balanced - so the opener isn't working harder than it has to. In just under a year, I've burned up two motors (under warranty) and 3 months ago they sent me a whole new unit under warranty and just today it burned up again. The design seemed ingenious.and it really is.but their implementation of the motor/gearbox is less than robust. There are pros and cons to Wayne Dalton, so speak with a garage door professional to figure out what makes sense for your garage.I bought the iDrive because it offered a quick and simple approach to mounting a garage door opener. There is just always a smaller chance of the spring breaking or something not working right with a torsion spring system than with a Wayne Dalton system. The torsion spring systems also last longer. Torsion spring systems are more common, so replacement or repair parts are easier to find. The torsion spring system is hands down a better system than the Wayne Dalton. If you have a Wayne Dalton and it needs to be repaired, then this is an ideal time to convert it over. Torsion Spring System vs Wayne Dalton Spring SystemĪs mentioned above, we recommend a torsion spring system over a Wayne Dalton. Installing this new opener was quick and easy and offers a lot more bang for Sam’s buck than the IDrive. This opener includes WiFi connectivity, a battery back up, 2 remote controls and an exterior keypad. We also replaced Sam’s IDrive garage door opener with something better. Interestingly enough, the cost to replace a Wayne Dalton torque master spring system is about the same cost to convert that system into a standard torsion spring system. We converted the Wayne Dalton torque master spring system to a standard torsion spring system. The springs, in less than 3 years, are broken. The Wayne Dalton spring system was installed with the home’s construction, only 3 years ago. To give some context on why we don’t recommend Wayne Dalton spring systems: Sam’s house is only 3 years old. Sam also had an Idrive opener installed together with the Wayne Dalton spring system. We don’t recommend installing these and have seen similar problems in the past. The culprit? A Wayne Dalton torque master spring system. That’s a big problem considering the entire purpose of a garage door is to open and close when needed. Our customer Sam gave us a call recently because there was a problem with her garage door.
